A lot of work and supplies go into a quality roof for a commercial property. To know that you’ll get your roofing job done right, you need peace of mind that you’re getting the best materials and help you can. That’s why at Danforth Roofing Supply Ltd. we have worked hard since 1946 to be the craftsman’s destination in Scarborough.
When it comes to commercial properties, flat and nearly flat roofs have long been the preferred option. Although there are many variations on the flat roof that can keep your building safe and secure, there are three top options that most contractors choose between.
Built-up Roof System
Built-up roof (BUR) systems have been around for a century, which means that they’re a reliable product. By adhering multiple layers of gravel and asphalt together, a BUR creates a watertight seal that is also durable and can protect a building for years. We at Danforth Roofing Supply have all the asphalt, gravel, perforated felt, and glass base sheets you’ll need to create a BUR.
Although Single-ply systems also create a watertight seal, they do so in a single layer. Special membranes are placed side-by-side on a roof and then welded together to create a watertight seal. Sometimes PVC, sometimes rubber ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), different kinds of membrane are appropriate for different situations.
Modified Bitumen System
This form of roofing came to North America from Europe in the 1970s and has been growing in popularity ever since. In some ways similar to BUR, modified bitumen roofs are also applied in layers. Rather than gravel, however, the layers are made up of more complex sheets of rubber or plastic compounds. Hybrid roofs are also possible in which a modified bitumen layer is added on top of lower layers of BUR.
